The Committee

The CU is very much a communal body, with every member playing a part. However, we do have some members in leadership roles. They are:

Daniel Hall:

Role: President

Studying: Politics and international relations

What I Do: I oversee the CU events and make sure that all the ideas come together. I am also the point of contact as the representative of the CU. He that is from above is above all and so my aim this year is simply to see the glory of God furthered on campus and to allow as many students as possible to hear and respond to Jesus Christ. John Wesley said “catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn.” The more passionate we become about our Lord Jesus Christ and spreading his message, the more his glory will be made known on campus.

Laurence Turpin:

Role: Vice-President/worship coordinator

Studying: History Of Art

What I Do: BMy role as Worship Coordinator involves me organising the musical worship for our weekly meetings, in which we thank God for who He is, the marvelous things He has done, and the ways He blesses us all in our daily lives. As Vice President, I support Dan in his role as President and generally oversee the CU and hopefully add to making CU a friendly environment. In terms of my vision for the CU, I would like us to follow the will of God, and love Him and love the people we know. Out of the overflow of our worship and praise, I pray that we would want to spread His good news around campus, and proclaim His glory to every student at UKC! :D

Random Fact About Me: I've been to the Midlands flat of the future president of Ghana. Fact.

Emma Goddard:

Role: Secretary

What I Do: I do quite a lot of admin. Working behind the scenes doing thinks like booking speakers, writing the minutes and emailing people about CU events. My vision for our CU is that we are a welcoming group; passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus' love at UKC.

Random Fact About Me: 'I spent 4 months of my gap year in Bolivia, working with girls in two centres; one that helps to prevent them ending up on the streets and the other to help girls who have been working on the streets'

Charis Powell:

Role: International Outreach

Studying:

What I Do: I work as part of the events team to put on fun and friendly events to tell people about the love of Jesus! But I am specifically in charge of the international side of things! So I put on international nights, and try my best to make CU more accessible for international students studying at Kent Uni. (I basically eat loads of international food and meet loads of people for coffee! :D) I believe evangelism is key to CU, and that every student on this campus should have the opportunity to hear about the amazing gift of Jesus.

Random Fact About Me: I once tried to chug a very small glass of coke, and got it in my mouth but couldn't swallow it, so spat it all over Dan (the president!)

Suzy Ward:

Role: Events Co-Ordinator

Studying: Drama and Theatre Studies

What I Do: My role as events co-ordinator is to work with the rest of the team to organise and book events on campus where we can continue to develop friendships and meet more and more people. We want to show God's love to the whole of Kent Uni. Jesus said that the two greatest things are: to Love God and to love others, and that is what we as a CU want to do..

Random Fact About Me: I'm also known as Daffy because apparently when I wear ski goggles I look like a duck!

Dave Cowen

Katherine Allemand

Role: Prayer Secretary

Studying: Psychology

What I Do: My role in the CU is to hold weekly prayer meetings as well as to let other churches know how they can pray for us. I want to lead people into powerful and passionate prayer. We believe that prayer is the basis of effective evangelism. When we witness we need the blessing of our Heavenly Father and the power of the Holy Spirit. We don't do it enough so we want to encourage everyone to come and pray together for others, themselves and this campus so that we can start seeing God move in a big way! It helps to get together with other Christians to share in prayer and to see how it is being answered. But prayer doesn't just have to happen at a certain time of the day. It should be continual in everything we do. Our prayers will be answered when we persevere and pray in His will. I am excited about seeing God's plan unfold on this campus as we continue to pray in Jesus name. All glory be to God!

My vision is to see God move on campus and for people to have their lives radically changed by the joy of knowing Jesus. And if God wants to use us as a CU to do this, then... Awesome!

Random Fact About Me: I'm a complete nerd and love all things Marvel; in particular vintage X-Men comics.
